When the global pandemic paused the U.S. economy this spring, the boatbuilding DaPonte family at NorthCoast Boats in Bristol, Rhode Island, decided to make the most of the down time. Building off the hull of their popular 285 hard top, they created the flagship NorthCoast 315HT, offering more room, more range, and more options for family fishermen.

“While the world was stopping due to a pandemic, we focused on building sold boats and completing the 315.” explained Cesar DaPonte, VP of NorthCoast Boats. “We have a 285 hard top that has a really sweet, performance-car-like hull, just so smooth and fast. So, we took this great-riding platform and reconfigured the deck to add space, add amenities, and add range.”
 
NorthCoast’s Hard Top lineup has been a big hit with boaters in the Northeast looking to extend their boating season later into the fall and earlier in the spring. The new 315HT takes advantage of the 285 hull and incorporates the open cockpit layout of the 255HT, but with more fishing and cruising amenities. For example, extending the cockpit allowed for much bigger macerated fishboxes and the addition of a side door. There is also a grilltop for cooking the day’s catch, and a sink with tackle lockers underneath.

“I think fishermen are going to appreciate being able to get an awesome hull without the price tag and lead time that you’re seeing right now for other boats,” said DaPonte. “And, because we are not building 5,000 boats a year, we can customize and keep the boat stripped down for fishing or add amenities to dress it up for family cruising—minus the over-the-top ‘fluff’ boaters pay for but never seem to use.”

The new 315HT has a length overall of 35’ including the Armstrong Bracket and Twin YAMAHA 300HP outboards. The cabin layout below deck sleeps four with a separate private head and new athwartships aft berth. Everything about the layout above deck is brand new. Weighing in at 12,212 lbs. with fuel, the 315HT offers a more expansive cockpit to improve fish-ability, or more room to social distance when entertaining. The 23 Degree dead-rise provides a velvety smooth, soft ride, and the bow flares perfectly to ensure an ultra-dry experience. This sharper dead-rise will enhance dynamic handling over mixed sea states. Using a single full beam aluminum tank, the fuel capacity is 316 gallons (300 useable), providing a range estimated to be in excess of 500 miles, cruising at 32mph, and leaving 10% for reserve. The FRP all composite stringer system is over-built and an integral component in how NorthCoast boats perform so beautifully. With 360-degree visibility, opening windows, and a wide-open layout, you and yours will enjoy easier handling around the dock or when spotting fish.
