New England Sharks
With Great Whites just off the Outer Cape beaches attracting tourists year after year, Kevin Blinkoff and Chris Megan take a closer look at these apex predators as well as other shark species that swim just off the coast of the Northeast. First, Chris heads south of Martha’s Vineyard to learn shark fishing and safety techniques from Capt. Mike Pierdinock and shark biology from Senior Marine Fisheries Biologist Dr. Greg Skomal. In the second half of the episode, Kevin takes a trip out aboard the OCEARCH research vessel anchored off Chatham. Their mission: capture, tag, and release a Great White shark. Tune in to see some of this jaw dropping footage and learn how fishermen and scientists can collaborate to raise awareness and gather much needed information about sharks, the lions of the ocean.
